The Landlocked Forest

The forest occupies land cut off from Burlington by Route 3.

Parking is usually on Turning Mill Road, under the power lines

The walk starts under the power lines, but you soon turn left into the forest.

The woods are quite open with many walkable trails.

Many stone walls attest to the fact that this was once all farmland.

Landlocked is very popular for mountain biking so folks have to watch out for each other.

There are a series of boardwalks through wetlands.

Marsh marigolds are one of the wildflowers that bloom in the wetlands.

Skunk cabbage grows happily in the wet areas.

Various streams run through the woods, though some dry up in midsummer.

Color coded trail signs mark the many trails.

This bumper crop of acorns shows that oaks thrive along with white pines.

It has lots of trails and is quite popular with mountain bikers.

You can’t get into The Landlocked Forest directly from Burlington: that’s why it’s called landlocked. But it is a short ways from most of Burlington.
